You will have heard it often enough: "Take off your coat, otherwise you will get cold outside!" But is this actually the case? We take over it unquestionably, but do you get it really colder outside if you keep your jacket inside? Hein Daanen, professor of thermophysiology at the Free University in Amsterdam, gives an answer.

Fact or fable?

Daanen tells HLN : “If you wear your jacket indoors, it is more difficult to release the body heat that you produce. The body then becomes warmer. If you then go outside, there is a greater heat capacity and it takes longer for the body to cool down in such a way that you get cold. ”

So a fable, because it is the other way around. If you wear a winter coat inside, you will be able to enjoy your own body heat for longer in the cold.
