Rain in New York? These are 10 tips for the rainy days

© copyright Columbus Travel 2020 Columbus Is it raining during your city trip in New York? No problem, because there is plenty to do. Avoiding rain is nowhere more fun than in this metropolis, after all, it's New York for that. Community member Diana has listed some tips for you.

1. A day of art and culture

'Everything is possible in New York. Yet the statement "I have been in every museum" is impossible. Because new museums are constantly opening up. On the Museum Mile you can easily spend a day sweet in the museum hopping in The Met and Guggenheim. Other must-sees are 9/11 Museum, Tenement Museum and my personal favorite: Whitney Museum of American Art. Just to name a few examples. Do your credit card a favor and check my budget tips first to see how you can view art for free. You're welcome. "

2. With your nose in the books

Visiting the New York Public Library is one of my favorite activities on a rainy day. New York’s most famous lions, Lord Astor and Lady Lenox, give you an impressive welcome on Fifth Avenue in Midtown. Once in the classical building you will be overwhelmed by gigantic reading rooms with millions of books, the most beautiful chandeliers and impressive ceilings. How many films will be recorded here?

3. A look behind the scenes of a TV show

In NYC it is just possible: watch in the studio of, for example, The Daily Show or Good Morning America. After that, attending a show live is of course a must! My experience is that getting a free (!) Ticket is not difficult at all. The secret to being selected? Exaggerate why you want to be at the show. You will be asked if you request a ticket online. Extra tip: do this at least a month before the show.

4. Eat your heart out!

What is better than culinary enjoyment when the rain comes pouring down from the sky? In The City it is bursting with covered food markets. You can find dozens of eateries in the Chelsea Market and Gansevoort Market. You can eat more Uptown in an atmospheric setting in The Plaza, Great Northern Food Hall or Urbanspace Vanderbilt. Last best: DUMBO's Time Out Market is unique in its kind. In this foodhall you will only find the very best chefs from the city. Here you just don't get stressed by the choice of first-class dishes. But rather see it from the other side: you can eat here all day long.

5. Backstage in secret places in MSG

Not to miss: a tour of Madison Square Garden is perfect for avoiding rain showers. With the All Access Tour you enter The Garden’s most exclusive parts. From the floor of the arena to the VIP lounge and the changing rooms of the NBAs New York Knicks and NHLs New York Rangers. A unique experience!

6. Search for hidden treasures under the ground

First aid for rain: take the metro. In the underground you will discover, if you pay attention, fantastic subway art. Curious in which metro stations you can find the most extraordinary works of art? With the Subway Art and History Tour you can find them and visit a hidden station.

7. The most beautiful station in the world

Continue your journey by metro to Grand Central 42 St. In the impressive Grand Central Terminal you can enjoy the beautiful chaos from the balconies in the station hall. The beautiful starry sky on the ceiling, golden chandeliers and famous Tiffany clock complete the magic picture. Judge for yourself if there is a nicer station! And to strip off your NYC bucket list: discover the secret of the whisper gallery.

8. Shop till the rain stops!

Rain is a good excuse for your day already spend shopping. In the Hudson Yards, Brookfield Place or Oculus shopping centers you have plenty of choice to shop for hours to your heart's content. In department stores such as Century 21, Macy’s and Bloomingdales you will never get bored. You will find more one-of-a-kind boutiques in SoHo and Brooklyn. Or are you looking for a vintage pearl? Your place to go is East Village.

9. Relaxing watching movies

What could be nicer than sitting back on a rainy day in a comfortable cinema seat? I myself visited Little Gem Village East Cinema. You will be really surprised here! The seats in the charming theater are great and the screen is nice and big. Enne, locals only. What else do you wish for?

10. Smile when it's raining: comedy club

Do you need an entertaining, evening-filling program? A comedy club is the best place to sample the New Yorkers sense of humor. It is rich, just like the range of comedy clubs. Catch a show with up-and-coming stand-up comedians in Comedy Cellar, Caroline’s on Broadway or Dangerfields.
