A first date can be nerve-racking. Although it is generally nice to step out of your comfort zone and meet someone new, many still experience a bit of anxiety. If the first date is a success, then of course you hope for a second. And, it appears that the second is more important than the first.

Connection

Many are too busy focusing on the first date, while this is actually a small meeting to see if it clicks between the two of you. Only on a second date do you begin to get to know each other a little, think of shared interests, ideas and goals.

Second 'chance'

Let's face it, ever had a first date that was really great? Probably not. Match.com conducted a survey with more than 5500 people. This showed that the chance - for singles who are actively looking for a partner - is 74 percent higher to give a date a second chance. Half of the participants believe that a 'okay' date can grow.

And if you think about it, they are right. On a first date you often know very little about each other. This allows you to quickly judge the smallest things. Did your date say something "stupid"? Then it may be that you quickly assume that the person is not that smart. But only when you get to know each other better, do you really find out whether you like it or not.

Go for it

If your first date was not that sparkling and you are more likely to say 'no' to a follow-up date, think about the above. Find out on the second date if the person is worth it or else your ways will separate again. And remember: you don't have to marry your date right away.
