From sopping kitchen cabinets to cleaning windows: we are all busy cleaning. Perhaps not only to prevent contamination, but also because we now have massive amounts of time. You thought you had cleaned everything, but is that so? WOMAN lists some much forgotten places for you.© Getty Images / iStockphoto
1. Door handles
Door handles are used daily, but are often forgotten during cleaning. They don't seem dirty, but they are! Due to the extensive use, bacteria and dirt collect on the surface. Therefore, clean your door handles with a microfibre cloth and warm water and an all-purpose cleaner.
2. Display coffee maker
Coffee splashes and fingerprints are probably good acquaintances of your coffee maker. While we often don't feel like cleaning the entire device, we do this occasionally. Yet we forget the easiest (and dirtiest) part: the screen! Wipe the outside of your device with a damp cloth and all-purpose cleaner. Do not use a scouring pad to prevent scratches.
The faucet is used intensively in every household. You brush your teeth, wash your hands or do the dishes. It is important to clean taps on a daily basis and not only if there is limescale on them. Put some detergent on a cotton cloth and take the tap off. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry the tap to make it shine.
4. Remote control
You can also use the remote control almost every day. Because you probably also eat and drink on the couch, the bacteria spread quickly. If your remote feels a bit sticky, it is really time to take a good look at the device. Brush away the dust and dirt, put some water on a microfiber cloth and wipe the remote control.
5. Light buttons
You touch them several times every day and yet they are often forgotten during the major cleaning. This makes light switches one of the dirtiest things in the house - especially the light switch in the toilet. Regular cleaning with a disinfectant wipe is not an unnecessary luxury ...
6. Garbage bin
We all change garbage bags. But have you ever cleaned the trash yourself? After all, many bacteria remain when the bag is out. You can wipe it with a cloth, vacuum the bottom or treat the container with disinfectant spray and a brush.
7. Knobs of the oven / microwave
We all know that we have to clean the inside of the oven and / or microwave. But it is the outside that is often forgotten. The buds are regularly dirty and greasy. Remove the buttons if possible and put them in the dishwasher. Clean them with a scouring pad and standard detergent if you cannot disconnect them.
It is not only important to clean the toilet seat and bowl. Also consider the toilet paper holder, the control panel and the toilet brush. The toilet is simply a gathering place for dirt and bacteria. Put your toilet brush in hot water with chlorine and clean the rest with a wad of toilet paper and methylated spirits.
