If you have ever been to Rome, then you must have visited the Trevi fountain. For years, coins have been thrown in this famous fountain. So you can imagine that there are thousands of euros in the water, but what is really being done with it?

Coins

There would be around 15,000 coins in the fountain every week the counter is even thrown around one million.

Of course, the coins cannot remain in the fountain forever. Every day the Roman Catholic charity Caritas comes to collect coins from the fountain and distributes them to the poor. For example, a cheap supermarket was opened in 2008 with money from the fountain.

Charity

But also other famous fountains do not leave the coins on the bottom. For example, the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas are sucked up with a separate device and the money from the fountains at The Mall of America in Minnesota is donated to charity and non-profit organizations. The fountains at Disney World are also cleaned annually and the income from them often goes to a good cause.

So next time you have doubts about throwing a coin in the fountain? Just do it! Who knows, you might really come back to the destination in question and otherwise you would have donated some money to a charity.
