The party month is not over yet, because tomorrow is New Year's Day. Enne, that means eating oliebollen, glasses of bubbles and a (small) layer of makeup. But do these things also affect our skin? We have at least a few tips for you so that you minimize those nasty breakouts.

Does makeup cause breakouts?

According to Johanna Ward, a cosmetic doctor, anything you put on your skin can cause unevenness. This is mainly due to oil-based makeup products. The oil clogs the pores so you can get acne sooner. It is therefore important to always remove your makeup and clean your skin well.

Six useful tips

1. Cleaning is the key

After you have removed your make-up, it is important to thoroughly clean the skin again with, for example, micellar water. This ensures that all dirt and dead skin cells are removed.

2. Choose mineral makeup

It allows your skin to 'breathe' so that it does not clog your pores.

3. Get to know ingredients

For example, avoid make-up with ingredients such as lanolin, isopropyl myristate, silicone and dimethicone, because these can actually clog the pores.

4. Hydrate

Hydrate your skin with an oil-free moisturizer or discuss with the beautician which product is best for you.

5. Use a face mask

Just be careful not to do this too often, because this can cause acne again.

6. A clean base

Make sure your skin is thoroughly cleansed before applying makeup. Do you use brushes? Clean it at least once a week. And if you prefer to use your hands, wash them first before you touch your face.
